Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Launched: 31% Faster Performance, 49% Faster GPU, and Key Features Revealed
Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the successor to last year’s 8s Gen 3, boasting an impressive 31% performance boost and a 49% faster GPU. The first devices featuring this advanced chipset are expected to launch in April, with iQOO potentially being among the first to release a smartphone powered by this new SoC.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4: Key Features and Specifications
Built on TSMC’s cutting-edge N4P 4nm process, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 utilizes an updated Kryo CPU, which, unlike the Oryon core in the Snapdragon 8 Elite, features a configuration with a 1x Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at up to 3.2GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz, 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8GHz, and 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz. The chipset is designed to deliver 31% faster performance than its predecessor while consuming 39% less power.
Additionally, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is equipped with the all-new Adreno 825 GPU, offering a 49% improvement over the previous generation. The GPU supports on-device ray tracing and includes Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0, delivering an enhanced gaming experience.
AI, Connectivity, and Imaging Enhancements
The upgraded Qualcomm Hexagon NPU boosts AI performance by 44%, making it ideal for on-device processing. The 18-bit triple image signal processor (ISP) supports advanced photography capabilities, including up to 320MP camera sensors and 4K60fps HDR video recording.
For connectivity, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 integrates the Snapdragon X75 5G modem, capable of peak download speeds up to 4.2Gbps (sub-6GHz), along with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 support for fast and reliable wireless connections.
Additional Features and Device Launches
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 supports UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 connectivity. It also introduces Qualcomm’s Extended Personal Area Network (XPAN) for Wi-Fi audio transmission, compatible with select wireless earbuds like the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro. Furthermore, the chipset supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology for rapid charging.
The iQOO Z10 Turbo is expected to be one of the first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, followed by releases from Xiaomi, Oppo, Meizu, and more.
Stay tuned for more updates on devices powered by this cutting-edge chipset!
